Legendary Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta Dead at 82

Moments ago the fashion world has been rocked by the death of legendary fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta. De la Renta was just 82 years young.

De la Renta was born on July 22, 1932, in the Dominica Republic. At the young of 18, he studied painting in Madrid. It was during his studying of painting that drew him to enter the world of design fashion. He established his New York fashion house in 1965. Then in 1967, he married then French Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Francoise de Langlade.  De la Renta also served as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for 5 years off and on.

De la Renta has dressed many first ladies as well as celebrities including Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker, and as of recent George Clooney’s new bride, Amal Alamuddin wore a custom Oscar de la Renta gown for her wedding.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Annette de la Renta. He died in his home in Kent, CT. De la Renta had been battling cancer for roughly about 10 years. The cause of death was not immediately clear.

Mr. de la Renta will truly be missed.  The fashion industry has one of its greatest designers. He is survived by his wife Annette de la Renta and son Moises de la Renta.
